Planning

The notion of this trip arose in October of  1992. Dave Getchell and I (Steve) were on a six day  600 mile skiff run from Yarmouth Maine to Mills Norrie State Park on the Hudson River in New York. We were attending the first North American Water Trails Conference and it just seemed logical to arrive by boat. The 18' open skiff with its lightweight 25 horsepower engine was a great boat for exploring the coast. With the exception of a bit of rather nasty weather on Massachusett's south shore, the trip was smooth and fun. While we were looking forward to joining our friends and colleagues at the conference the temptation to keep going was powerful. Dave suggested I read In the Wake of the Gemini, a description of a woman's 1962 voyage in a 17' runabout on the Great Loop before that term had been coined. Now its 23 years later and Libbey and I will soon be outward bound
