Frequently Asked Questions
1. Will we see birds and wildlife? There is an excellent chance, but no guarantee that we will see a fine assortment of birds and wildlife such as eagles, osprey, terns, sea ducks and seals. If there are any species you'd particularly like to see, please let us know and we will gladly make an extra effort to find them.
2. Will I get sea sick? This is almost never a problem on boats like Laughing Gull. If you're worried, there are over the counter medications available at drug and grocery stores. Ginger has a following as a homeopathic treatment and we've often used that as an excuse to enjoy an extra Ginger Snap.
3. What is the policy about weather cancellations? We are students of Maine's marine weather and will reschedule or cancel (full refund) in the event of unsafe weather conditions. Intermittent rain and fog are part of the Maine coast experience and we rarely cancel for them. The boat has a sliding roof and windowed curtains so we can be warm and dry and still enjoy the view.
4. Can we fish? Fish runs for the popular striped bass and bluefish have been low in our areas recently and we don't target them on charters. Mackerel fishing has been superb the last few years so we carry a few rods and we're pleased to target them if you like. We are licensed as a guide boat so you don't need a license to fish on our boat.
5. Is there a bathroom on board? Yes, a clean comfortable marine head (toilet) is available in the privacy of the boat's cabin.
6. Can we bring the kids? Yes, please do-we like having kids aboard!
7. What should we bring? Hat, sunglasses, sun screen, camera (with plenty of batteries and memory space), rain jacket and an extra sweater or fleece top. We have binoculars to share but you're welcome to bring your own if you prefer.
8. What other kinds of boat trips do you offer? Our core service area is defined by our base in Whitefield Maine. From here we trailer Laughing Gull to any port between Portland and Bangor at our standard rates. We're familiar with the entire coast of Maine and would be glad to design a trip that meets your interest in any area. In addition to Maine's coast we know the big lakes well particularly Moosehead, Maine's largest lake. Is there an area that you've always wanted to explore? We have the boat, the skill and the local knowledge to make it a success.
9. Do you provide boat transportation service? We're also pleased to offer boat transport services to professionals needing access to islands or remote shore lines.
